GROUNDED (Jian Guorong, Chen Yanxin, Wu Huiyu, Wu Meiqi, Luo Shiyun) is a collectively-run art collective based in Southern China, with all members coming from the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and possessing diverse disciplinary backgrounds. The group’s practice unfolds primarily through socially engaged and research-based approaches, employing mediums such as text, video, installation, and art workshops. GROUNDED focuses on plural ecological narratives, departing from practices and research in eco-art and socially engaged art. By connecting community networks, the collective conveys alternative ecological values and reflections on the “Anthropocene,” striving to build a growing green “lowland” where theory and practice intertwine.
Beyond engaging others through conventional knowledge frameworks, GROUNDED seeks to draw on situated, site-specific experiences to complement local perspectives outside the purely conceptual and historical, emphasizing embodied participation and lived understanding. The group aims to break free from Cartesian dualisms of “human” versus “non-human,” searching for alternative paths for the coexistence of all life, and establishing a more caring ethical framework for the equitable flourishing of all beings.

Recipes of DeiDaam is a project in which the artists reflect on food culture and engage in an act of self-adjustment. In Cantonese, a deidaam refers to someone who knows local food intimately-an expertfamiliar with every corner of the city's culinary landscape. Yet when the notion of "place" shrinks from vastmarkets and farmlands to the confines of a single city, and ultimately to the kitchen and tableware at home, the so-called connoisseur must devise a menu that responds to the limits of the present environment.
Beginning with a single memorable dish, the project uses taste to evoke lived memories, creating a sensorypassage between flavor and recollection. As the menu unfolds, it weaves together dispersed experiencessensations, and stories, forming a thread that flows between individual and collective memory.
More than a record of food practices, Recipes of DeiDaam is an exploration of creativity under constraint-rediscovering local flavors within limited ingredients and spaces, and transforming cooking into a mediumof communication, consolation, and reinvention.
