Introduction

“Everlasting Renewal” evokes renewal and the fresh energy of a new year. As the title of this exhibition, it echoes Guangzhou’s spirit of openness and positions a millennium of Dehua white porcelain within a living continuum of tradition, the contemporary, and the future.

Dehua porcelain embodies the cultural ideals of purity, clarity, and simplicity. Its warm, restrained glaze and balanced forms reflect the philosophical depth of Chinese craftsmanship. Presented in Guangzhou—an important hub on the Maritime Silk Road—the exhibition reconnects with histories of exchange while reinterpreting “China White” through a contemporary global lens.

Here, “renewal” is not rupture but the ongoing regeneration of tradition. The newness of Dehua porcelain lies not in drastic shifts but in the enduring qualities of simplicity, clarity, and quiet warmth. Using “white,” “form,” and “renewal” as its threads, the exhibition invites viewers to look beyond appearances and encounter the lasting luminosity of Chinese culture.
