“未完成的未来——中国当代水墨年鉴十周年”展览落地广东美术馆。展览缘起于“中国当代水墨年鉴”项目2016至2026十年的工作积累，是该项目学术梳理工作的阶段性总结与系统性呈现。

 

十年来，“中国当代水墨年鉴”持续扎根中国当代水墨创作现场，以文献归档、学术梳理、展览推进为核心工作，系统性记录当代水墨的发展进程，构建起稳定、持续的年度学术研究体系。项目累计组织学术展览二十余场，出版专业学术图录十二部，收录、整理近千位不同代际水墨艺术家的创作成果、学术轨迹与现场文献，并与国内多所美术馆开展合作。2024 年，“中国当代水墨四十年1985—2024”项目获得国家艺术基金项目资助，由“中国当代水墨年鉴”与南京艺术学院美术馆共同组织实施。

 

本次展览将呈现90余位艺术家的百组水墨作品，以三大主展厅串联十年发展脉络，并设置五个嵌入式专题展中展与长廊文献档案区，将作品展示、议题研究、档案归档融为一体。展览首先溯源“当代水墨”概念的形成过程，梳理从传统转型到多元实验的文脉。继而直面当代水墨面临的现实困境，剖析其在本土传统评价体系与国际艺术语境之间遭遇的身份错位，同时引入粤港澳水墨的在地视角，形成区域实践与全国叙事的对话。在此基础之上，展览进一步转向媒介拓展的实验，探讨水墨“边界溶解而非本体消解”的创作路径，借由前辈、中坚与青年艺术家的实践，呈现正在发生的艺术探索。

 

展览无意给出关于水墨未来的标准答案，而是将十年的成果、分歧与实验一并摊开，以文献留存历史，以作品激发思辨。所谓“未完成的未来”，正是指向水墨持续演变、尚未定型的状态，期待观者在历史与现场之中，共同思考水墨艺术的当下与前路。

 

The Unfinished Future: The 10th Anniversary of Annual Review of Chinese Contemporary Ink Painting will be presented at the Guangdong Museum of Art. The exhibition draws on a decade of work by the Annual Review of Chinese Contemporary Ink Painting from 2016 to 2026, offering a systematic review on the project’s scholarly research.

 

Over the past decade, the Annual Review has remained rooted in the contemporary ink art scene in China, focusing on documentation, research and exhibitions. It has organised more than twenty exhibitions, published twelve catalogues and documented the works and trajectories of nearly one thousand ink artists across generations. The project has collaborated with art museums nationwide. In 2024, its Forty Years of Contemporary Ink in China (1985-2024) project received funding from the National Arts Fund and was co-organised and implemented by the Annual Review and the Art Museum of Nanjing University of the Arts.

 

The Unfinished Future presents more than 100 groups of works by over 90 artists across three mian exhibition halls, alongside five embedded thematic exhibitions and a corridor archive zone. First, the exhibition traces the formation and development of “contemporary ink art”, from the modern transformation of traditional painting to diverse experimental practices. It then examines the challenges facing contemporary ink art between domestic traditions and the international art context, while introducing the local perspectives on Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao ink practice. The exhibition further explores the expansion of the medium, asking how the boundaries of ink can dissolve without negating its fundamental nature. Through works by senior, mid-career and young artists, it presents artistic explorations unfolding in real time.

 

This exhibition brings together the achievements, divergences and experiments of the past decade. The Unfinished Future points to the ever-evolving, open-ended state of ink art, inviting viewers to reflect on its present and future trajectory.
