Introduction
Tang Jixiang is one of the few truly versatile painters in the contemporary Chinese art circle. He is respected for his artistic accomplishments and personality. He has developed remarkably diverse styles and earned the nickname “the Ever-changing Tang Jixiang.” He has continuously explored new possibilities by integrating Chinese and Western artistic traditions for more than eight decades, experimenting with different media such as oil painting, ink-wash painting and printmaking. His paintings synthesize the elegant linearity of Chinese ink-wash painting, the concise forms of printmaking, the rich colors of oil painting, and the spatial composition of mural art, creating works that integrate the beauty of Chinese traditions while revealing distinctly modern Oriental aesthetics.
This exhibition presents dozens of Chinese ink-wash paintings and oil paintings from the museum’s collection, representing the breadth of Tang Jixiang’s artistic practice. Among the highlights are important works such as ‘Birds Singing in the Sky’ and ‘Indian Women Fetching Water’.
The exhibition is composed of three thematic sections: Noble Spirit, Poetic Realms, and Flourishing Blossoms. It traces the artist’s decades-long journey of continuous experimentation, bold innovation, and constant self-transcendence.
