Wang Weibao (b. 1942), a native of Jinjiang, Fujian, graduated from the Affiliated High School of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 1963 and joined the Guangdong Academy of Painting in 1979. He is a National First-Class Artist and a recipient of the State Council Special Government Allowance. His career began with printmaking; at sixteen, his work Catching Sparrows was published in Fujian Daily. In the mid-1970s, he turned from figure painting to landscape. His 1977 work Victory of the People became a classic in modern Chinese art. Wang's landscapes are known for their fresh style, poetic charm, and bright yet rich colouring, securing his significant place in contemporary Chinese landscape painting.

 

The exhibition title, Where the Heart Settles, reflects both Wang's discovery of his artistic calling in landscape painting and the proper preservation of these donated works at the Guangdong Museum of Art. Featuring 40 selected works across prints, gouache, and ink paintings, the exhibition is organized into three sections: Portraits of Life, Homeland Scenes, and Landscape Scrolls. All works are donated by Wang and his family, significantly enriching the museum's collection. We extend our deepest respect to Mr. Wang Weibao for his extraordinary contribution.
