克罗地亚是一个古老而又年轻的国家。它位于巴尔干半岛西北部，亚得里亚海东岸，特殊的地理位置使其成为东西方文化的汇聚之地。多种文化在这里碰撞、交融，使克罗地亚文化具有开放性与兼容性并存的特点。绘画作为独立的视觉艺术学科，在克罗地亚具有异乎寻常的历史积淀和丰厚传统。这里的绘画最早出现于早期罗马、拉丁风格的手稿和古版本中，以及精妙的罗马式和哥特式书法中。最为卓越的欧洲文艺复兴时期袖珍画画家之一--克罗地亚人朱利耶·克劳维奇的作品，第一次赋予绘画以鲜明个性。克罗地亚人骄傲地继承了这一传统的同时，不断吸收异域文明的养料，创造出独具特色的民族文化。
此次展览包括克罗地亚当代60位著名画家的120幅作品。这些作品主题涉及自然、政治、神话、宗教、文学、广告等多个领域，形式上则采用了各种现代与传统相结合的表现技法，既展现了克罗地亚当代视觉艺术的丰富色彩，更传达了这一民族深厚的人文精神与历史底蕴。

Croatia is a young country with ancient history. It is
located in the northwest Balkan Peninsula and on the east coast of the Adriatic
Sea. Special geographical location makes it a converging point of both the
Oriental and Western civilization. The blending of various cultures on her
territory has characterized Croatia by openness and compatibleness. The drawing
as a separate visual art discipline has an exceptionally long and rich tradition
in Croatia. The drawing has been present from the early Romanesque and Latin
manuscripts and incunabula, fantastic Romanesque and Gothic calligraphy to
become individualized for the first time in the works of one of the most
prominent European Renaissance miniaturists - the Croat Julije Klović. While
consciously and proudly inheriting the achievements of its prominent ancestors,
Croatian draws nourishment from overseas civilization to create unique national
culture.
The exhibition presents 120 paintings by 60
Croatian contemporary artists. The theme of these artworks involves nature,
politics, mythology, religion, culture, and advertisement etc. In form, they
employ kinds of technique of expression combining modern and tradition. While
presenting rich and varied forms of the modern Croatian visual art, these
paintings express profound feeling and historical ground of this nation.
