Yu Ben

Yu Ben (1905-1995)
Formerly known as Yu Jianben or Daoqing and from Taishan, Guangdong. In 1918, he went to Canada to study while working. In 1929, he was transferred to the Toronto Provincial Institute of Art; he taught there for a year after his graduation in 1932. He returned to Guangzhou in 1956, served as deputy director of Guangdong Institute of Art, director of China Artists Association Guangdong Branch, and member of China Federation of Writers and Artists. He was good at oil painting. The oil painting "Violinist" created in 1930 participated in the National Art Exhibition of Canada and the Toronto World's Expo. The "Trackers" created in 1938 and the "Mudanjiang Reclamation Area" created in 1961 are both collections of the China Art Museum.
