Zhao Shou, 1912 - 2003, originally named
Zhao Weixiong, is a Guangzhou native. After three years of study in Japan, he
participated in some domestic exhibitions which were held by “Chinese
Independent Association of Fine Arts” founded in Tokyo in 1935, and pressed
series of works and articles in several magazines. From then on he had been
devoted himself in education of art, and held his passion for making modern art
for the rest of his life. In the year of 1998, two of Zhao Shou’s works were
selected for the “5000 Years of Chinese Civilization” exhibition at Guggenheim
Museum of Art, New York, in which he gained world-wide attention. After his
death in 2003, most of his works were conserved in GDMoA. This retrospect of
Zhao Shou will display over a hundred of the preserved works and documents,
which allow audiences, explore the artist in depth.
