The grand opening of the exhibition will commence on the afternoon of May 22, 2025, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center!  

 

Jointly presented by over 20 prestigious cultural institutions, this landmark exhibition unveils Guangdong's artistic evolution through 160+ seminal works by 130+ masters of art, structured across six thematic sections. Through the innovative integration of rare archival documents, historical visual materials, and cutting-edge digital multimedia technologies, the curatorial team employs immersive exhibition design to panoramically present the century-long innovative journey of Guangdong's art scene, redefining narratives of Chinese modernism.

Introduction

 

南海之滨，潮起潮落，粤港两地一衣带水，文脉相连。在粤港澳大湾区建设迈向纵深的关键时期，“其命惟新——广东美术百年大展”跨越地理界限，于香港会议展览中心盛大启幕。这场汇聚160余件经典之作的艺术盛宴，既是对广东美术百年革新历程的深情回望，更是以艺术为媒，续写粤港文化同源、大湾区文艺共荣的时代新篇。

 

“周虽旧邦，其命惟新。”百年前，广东美术以海洋般的胸怀拥抱世界，在时代浪潮中勇立潮头；今天，在大湾区建设的壮阔图景中，粤港两地正以艺术为舟，共同航向文化融合的新海域。愿这场跨越山海的展览，成为一扇窗，让世界看见中华文明的现代转型 ；成为一座桥，连接起两地同胞的文化认同 ；更成为一声号角，召唤新一代艺术家以“其命惟新”的勇气，在大湾区的热土上，续写属于这个时代的文艺史诗。

 

On the southern coast of China, where tides ebb and flow, Guangdong and Hong Kong are connected by more than geography—they share a deep cultural lineage. At this pivotal stage of development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Reform Mission—Guangdong Art Centennial Exhibition transcends geographical boundaries to make a grand debut at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Showcasing over 160 masterpieces, this art feast is both a heartfelt retrospective of a century of artistic reform in Guangdong and a new chapter in the shared cultural roots of Guangdong and Hong Kong and the artistic flourishing of the Greater Bay Area, written through the language of art.

 

"Although Zhou was an ancient state, it had a reform mission." A century ago, Guangdong art embraced the world with oceanic vision, standing at the forefront of the times. Today, in the grand narrative of the Greater Bay Area, Guangdong and Hong Kong sail together on the vessel of art toward a new sea of cultural integration. May this exhibition across mountains and seas become a window for the world to witness the modern transformation of Chinese civilization; a bridge connecting cultural identity between compatriots on both sides; and a call to action, inspiring a new generation of artists to carry forth the spirit of "Reform Mission", and write the artistic epic of our time on the fertile soil of the Greater Bay Area.
